The original 1932 Boris Karloff classic that solidified Universal Studios as the creator of monster movies, with an introduction by local author Dr L.J.M. Owen on the real-life mummy of Ramesses III that inspired the film. Ticket includes a signed copy of Owen’s latest ‘Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth’ novel, fresh off the presses - Egyptian Enigma.

About THE MUMMY: Brought back to life after nearly 3,700 years, Egyptian high priest Imhotep wreaks havoc upon the members of a British field exposition. While disguised as a contemporary Egyptologist, he falls in love with Zita Johann, whom he recognizes as the incarnation of a priestess who died nearly 40 centuries earlier. Part horror, part Gothic romance, the portrayal by Karloff of the eponymous mummy was considered a triumph of cinematic acting at the time - subtle, brooding and atmospheric. Karloff’s makeup reportedly took more than eight hours to complete, leading to limited screen time of the full-bandage mummy and allowing Karloff’s Imhotep to pursue a lost love in the guise of the suave Ardeth Bey.

About the event: Join Dr Owen for the screening followed by a reading from her latest novel, Egyptian Enigma, a tale of lost mummies, ancient grave robbers, modern cannibals and female Pharaohs. Ticket includes a signed copy of Egyptian Enigma, the newest adventure from Canberra’s own archaeologist-librarian: Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth
