Smoke Between Trees is an emotionally rich story of a broken man whose life is forever changed when he is reunited with his grandson.
Matthew Higgins has lost everything. After years in a loveless marriage, his wife has Alzheimer's disease and now resides in an assisted living facility. His beloved daughter and her partner, an Aboriginal man, died in a car accident years ago and he still carries the grief of his losses.
Ari, his grandson who survived the crash, re-enters Matthew's life on the eve of Ari's 10th birthday, when his gran drops him off for the night. Matthew struggles with being forced to face his past, but as he reconnects with Ari, a path to a different future opens up for Matthew.
