SOUNDS OF AUSTRALIA
SAT 18 JAN @ 2PM | Arc Cinema | FREE
Established in 2007, the Sounds of Australia is the NFSA's selection of sound recordings with cultural, historical and aesthetic significance and relevance, which inform or reflect life in Australia. Each year, the Australian public nominates new sounds to be added to the Collection with final selections determined by a panel of industry experts.
Entries can be popular songs, advertising jingles, famous speeches, radio broadcasts, or any other sound recordings - as long as they're Australian and more than 10 years old.
The 2019 Sounds of Australia have just been announced, so join NFSA Sound Curator Thorsten Kaeding on stage to discuss what made it in, their significance, and hear them all out loud. New additions for 2019 include Savage Garden, Olivia Newton-John, 'Up There Cazaly' and wax cylinder recordings of the Arrente, Anmatyerr, Kaytetye, Warumunau, Luritia and Arabana peoples dating back to 1901.
