THE FILMS OF LEE WHITMORE
Sunday 28 October, 11am | Arc Cinema | Tickets $17 / $14 concession
Lee Whitmore is one of Australia’s leading animation filmmakers and will be in conversation on stage with Glenys Rowe, talking about her work and presenting selections from her films. Her short personal works which we will be celebrating at CIFF this year. These five films depict intimate moments of family life and memories of childhood, and evoke a charming, nostalgic yearning. The films use a variety of techniques, but all are united by their free-flowing, loosely drawn style that is Lee Whitmore’s signature. Her whimsical humour, attention to detail and small gestures are distinctly her own.
“Lee Whitmore’s films are miniature masterpieces, exploring and archiving private memories of families and childhood. They express a strong humanist respect for their characters, and executed with an extraordinary vitality of colour, line and movement. Few other animators can come close to their depiction of a private world.” - Andrew Pike
