NAIDOC Week

The Buwindja Collection
Corporate and Organisational Streaming Packages

For the last 54 years, NAIDOC Week has been Australia’s national moment to learn from, and about, the nation’s rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures. To celebrate NAIDOC Week, this year the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia is launching The Buwindja Collection - a curated collection of 17 titles (24 hours) available to stream in full and on demand showcasing a superb array of feature films, documentaries, TV series and animations.

In 2023, the National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders. With a national collection of over 4 million items, the NFSA is uniquely situated to curate and share a collection celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, in order to shine a light on the icons, trailblazers and dreamers of the Indigenous community.

Highlights include Warwick Thornton’s award-winning Samson & Delilah, Stephen Page’s extraordinary dance film Spear, Essie Coffey’s landmark documentary My Survival as an Aboriginal: NFSA Digital Restoration, the rock n’ roll documentary Wrong Side of the Road: NFSA Digital Restoration and biographical features about Indigenous leaders including Noel Tovey and Ruby Langford Ginibi.

Buwindja is curated by Gillian Moody, a Wodi Wodi woman and NFSA's Senior Manager, Indigenous Connections.  “I curated this collection with the hope of inspiring reflection, imagination and action.

At the National Film and Sound Archive,  we believe that sharing stories in our communities and workplaces can sustain commitment to Reconciliation by supporting engagement with difficult but necessary conversations, and by learning from the achievements and celebrations of the past.

Buwindja explores this year's NAIDOC theme For Our Elders and will provide a deeper understanding of the struggles and achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, and is a chance for your workplace to reflect on the part it can play in ensuring that their voices continue to be heard.”

Corporate and organisational streaming access to Buwindja allows viewing for an unlimited number of times across the month of July, in full and on demand, across web, mobile and TV on NFSA Player.
