1990, 52 Minutes

Real Man’s Porsche, A - The Story of a Warship is a fascinating insight into life on board the Australian warship HMAS Darwin.

The program was shot as the ship took part in joint Australian, American, Korean and Japanese naval exercises near Hawaii. It is a story about the relationships, discipline and unrelenting pressures of every sailor’s life. It examines the solitary existence of the commanding officer, reveals the difficulties experienced by first-time sailors and looks at the problems that all sailors face when leaving their loved ones for up to six months at a time.
