This is the story of a city built on coal.
Australia's Newcastle, like its British counterpart, developed into a large city because it was a coal port, and it still retains its essential mining atmosphere. The great steel industry "which feeds on its black gold" is shown in full blast.
But Story of a City reaches beyond coal, steel and the activities of a great port and into the lives of the city's inhabitants. It explores not only the mines and the mills but moves into the dwellings and working places and out into the stunning natural surroundings where the people spend their leisure time.
